At the northwest corner of the Isle of Skye, on the Duirinish Peninsula, is Neist Point and its Lighthouse. The lighthouse and its associated buildings are privately owned and are 3 self-catering cottages. The lighthouse was built in 1909, designed by David Stevenson. It became fully automated in 1990 and the light keepers were withdrawn. The foghorn on the cliff in front is no longer operational, I bet the guests are happy about that!! The lighthouse itself is unmanned and owned by the Northern Lighthouse Board.
Photo by: John Allan Visiting Neist Point and the Lighthouse The lighthouse is not open to the public as a visitor attraction, but it is situated on a headland which is a popular tourist spot, called Neist Point. There is a visitors car park, one and a half miles from the Lighthouse and Neist Point. From here you descend down a steep concrete path/steps, there are handrails provided all the way down to the Lighthouse. At the bottom of the steps continue along the concrete path towards the next hill, up and over this and the lighthouse will come into view. From the lighthouse you can leave the path and explore the headland, but it can be a bit boggy. Unfortunately when you have finished, the walk back to your car is all up hill!
