The lighthouse is on a small tidal islet called Eilean Sionnach just off Ornsay, which is accessible on foot at low tide. It is within the Sleet of Sound off the Isle of Skye. To reach the lighthouse, after you cross the Skye Bridge, drive south to the village of Sleat. Or if you are feeling fit you can take a popular walk of 12 miles.
Photo by John Allan It was built by David Stevenson and became operation in 1857. It was automated in 1962 and was converted to a gas light and mains electricity in 1988.
