Chilcompton PO Then and Now

The first photograph shows the post office on the hill at Chilcompton around 1905.

Notice the roadside stream down the side of the road, before drains were laid.

Next a photograph taken, by me, in the autumn of 1995 as a part of a series of 'then and now' photographs for a magazine. The post office had moved, although not far, the farm on the left was looking empty with barn immediate left derelict, and some of the houses on the left of the earlier photo had gone.

I visited this again recently August 2010, and took the image below

This is nearer to the original view, the farm on the left has now been done up and extended, the old barn now being a kitchen wing.

The post office had moved by my previous visit just down the road,  but now on my later visit this, like so may other post offices, was also closed. All that remains is shown on the right. It appears to have originally been a part of a house and has been joined back in again.

Chilcompton still has post office, I found it as I was leaving the village on the main road as a part of a Co-op shop.
