John Constable, Boat Building near Flatford Mill, Then and Now

The boat dock has been restored and can be seen now, in a similar form to that of Constables time.

The bridge and bridge cottage is just out of view to the right and the lock and Flatford Mill are to the left. The tow path is on the opposite side of the river.

As near as you can get to the same angle toady. Constable has a higher view so perhaps he was on a wagon.

and looking back with the river behind me.

This is the removable dam that keeps the water out, you can also just see the bridge beyond.

The dam is now on the right, and I have moved to position where you can see the bridge better.

Combatable also painted a View on the Stour near Dedham from this position. But the tress were not there then.
