Hardwick Old Hall Then and Now

nr Bolsover, Derbyshire

Location Guide

Hardwick Old Hall is now roofless and stands besides Hardwick New Hall, and it has stood in this condition now for a long time. It was a re-modelled family home of Bess of Hardwick, one of the richest women of Elizabethan England. It stands beside Hardwick New Hall which she had built later in the 1590s. Hardwick Old Hall is run by English Heritage and the New Hall by the National Trust. Parking is in the National Trust car park.

This is a Photochrome from around 1905 of the Old Hall

The same view today, shows very little difference, except for the tree growth. If we were to take a similar photograph in the winter months when less leaves are on the trees, we would be able to see more of the structure, most of which is the same.
